"Keep Ithaka always in your mind. Arriving there is what you're destined for. But don't hurry the journey at all. Wise as you will have become, so full of experience, you'll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean."

โ€“ Constantine Cavafy (Ithaka)

What does an ancient Andean tradition have to do with building a climate insurance company? More than you'd think.

In our latest article, our CEO Rodrigo Garcia reflects on a principle that has quietly shaped Suyana's journey from the very beginning: the idea that giving must come before receiving. From our early days at Lloyd's Lab to the development of an Early Warning System for Bolivia's Andean communities, Rodrigo traces how the decision to invest in impact before chasing growth became the turning point that unlocked everything that followed.

It's a personal, honest look at what it takes to build a mission-driven company, and why generosity isn't just good ethics, but good strategy.

๐Ÿ‘” On Stage: Mexico Tech Week & Harvard

Rodrigo Garcia sharing Suyana's story at Harvard Kennedy School

This quarter brought two opportunities to share Suyana's mission on global stages.

At Mexico Tech Week, Rodrigo joined the panel "Tech for Good: When Artificial Intelligence Serves the Climate," discussing how Suyana leverages AI and satellite data to make climate insurance accessible for vulnerable communities. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Read more

At Harvard Kennedy School, Dean Jeremy Weinstein invited Rodrigo to join an intimate session with Social Innovation and Change (SICI) alumni, leaders selected for the depth of their social impact. Speaking before the Dean's Council, we had the chance to bring Suyana's story to a room of some of the most accomplished leaders in social innovation and policy. It was a powerful reminder that the problems we are solving resonate far beyond the insurance industry.

๐Ÿค Imbolc Partners Joins Our Round

We're excited to welcome Imbolc Partners to Suyana's fundraising round. Led by Matt Crozier, Imbolc is a Boston-based micro-venture fund that backs high-integrity founders in growing markets, with a portfolio spanning health, biotech, and climate. Their focus on capital-efficient companies with clear paths to revenue aligns closely with how we've built Suyana from the start.

Imbolc joins Halcyon Venture Partners, Side Door Ventures, and our growing group of investors who believe that closing the climate protection gap is both urgent and investable. We're grateful for their confidence in our team and our mission.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Team Retreat: A Week of Focus

In January, the entire Suyana team came together for our inaugural annual retreat. It was a week of strategy, collaboration, and personal connection. We set goals for the year, ran focused sprints on new features, and worked side by side on problems that had been scattered across chat threads and video calls for months. It is remarkable how much you can accomplish during a week of undivided attention.

Beyond internal workshops, we met with investors, insurance professionals, and fellow entrepreneurs from across the region. These conversations reinforced what we already believed: the appetite for climate protection solutions in Latin America is real and growing.

Most importantly, we formalized the culture we'd been building intuitively. We defined three values to guide our work going forward: Truth-Seeking, because our product is only as good as the integrity of our data and the honesty of our team. Agency, because a small team protecting millions of people across multiple countries can only work if every member takes full ownership. And Impact, a commitment to generating positive, measurable, and lasting change in everything we do.

๐Ÿ‘€ Coming Soon: Partnerships with CAF & IDB

Suyana is partnering with the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to advance climate resilience in the region. Together, we are studying and characterizing climate risk across Latin America and the Caribbean: exploring patterns, identifying challenges, and crafting solutions that combine satellite data, machine learning, and local expertise. We'll share more as these collaborations take shape. For now, we're proud to be working alongside two of Latin America's most important development institutions to close the climate protection gap. Stay tuned!

๐Ÿ’ก Adaptation Innovation Lab

Suyana has been selected for the Adaptation Innovation Lab, a program by the Hazelwood Network supported by ClimateWorks Foundation and delivered in partnership with First Matter, Achiiv, and Foley Hoag. The program brings together five climate tech startups from emerging markets, representing Nigeria, Costa Rica, Argentina, Bolivia, and South Africa, all working on adaptation and resilience.

Over the course of the program, we are working directly with specialists in go-to-market strategy and financial storytelling to sharpen our fundraising and market access strategies. First Matter, whose methodology has been adopted by leading climate tech investors and accelerators including Breakthrough and the Earthshot Prize, is leading the market readiness track.

This selection adds to Suyana's growing track record of recognition by top-tier programs and reinforces our commitment to scaling climate protection where it's needed most.
